October 2022 Newsletter

Hello Everyone at WCC

I hope you all had a good summer and had lots of opportunities to take winning images ready for the new season’s competitions (whilst avoiding heatstroke!).

As you know, the new season starts on 4th October. We have been able to negotiate a new contract with the Centenary Club which works in our favour. We have a new charge for the hire of the room and where previously each member had to be a member of the Centenary Club too we now only need two WCC members to join the Centenary Club. All the other members will be their guests which means that everyone will have to ‘sign in’ when they arrive. The book will be on a table as you enter the meeting room.

The new season’s programme is now complete and is available to view on the club website. Thank you to Mick, Steve and Chris who have compiled the Programme Booklet. This will be distributed on the first evening. It also contains explanations about the different requirements for the competitions.

The first meeting of the season will be a brief tribute to our late President, Janet Comley, who sadly passed away in July. There will also be a workshop session covering how to re-size your images and a presentation on different methods of how mount your prints for competitions.

The Wessex Battle is finally going to be held on Tuesday 25th October after being postponed twice due to the Covid pandemic. It will be held in Wareham Parish Hall – BH20 4LP at 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend with no admission fee. It is a competition between all the camera clubs in the area so it is a good opportunity to see other clubs work. There will be no meeting at the Centenary club on this evening.

The committee has agreed to buy a new laptop for the club as the old one was running too slowly for the current software and could not be up graded to Windows 11. The cost will be covered by the Lottery Fund Grant.

The Committee would like to re-start the raffles on competition evenings. We usually ask members to donate some of the prizes (not compulsory!) and we are looking for a volunteer to sell the raffle tickets on the night. If you would like to do this or have any questions please contact me at (ruthandsteveb@sky.com).

Look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.

Regards
